Moustapha Kassem says: “Osteoporosis is a bone disease that affects mostly elderly persons (30% of all women and 15% of all men) and leads to bone fracture after minimal trauma. Osteoporosis is a major health care problem as increases the risk of death and loss of independence. We have currently few medications that can treat osteoporosis and therefore there is a need to develop new approaches for managing this disease. The aim of the current project is to study why osteoporosis incidence increases with age, to determine which factors related to aging, that cause osteoporosis and to test the effects of drugs that kill “aged-cells” in bone as a new therapy for osteoporosis.”´
