Transgender persons have gender identity different from the assigned sex at birth. The risk of depression and suicide in transgender persons is markedly increased and improving mental health is an important goal of gender-affirming care. Sex hormone treatment for transgender persons includes often life-long testosterone treatment of transgender men and combined estrogen/ testosterone suppressing treatment of transgender women.

We aim to investigate the short- and long-term effects of sexhormone treatment on health in transgender men and women with a special focus on cardiovascular health outcomes.
